Countries adopt historic treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge

On Friday 24 May 2024, Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) adopted an international treaty that deals with the intersection between intellectual property, genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge.

Celebrated at a Diplomatic Conference held at WIPO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the treaty contains specific provisions for indigenous peoples and traditional communities, being approved by more than 190 countries, including Brazil.
