International Department

Since its inception more than 50 years ago, Felsberg Advogados has been particularly active in providing counsel to foreign business entities seeking to invest in Brazil. Similarly, the firm has long recognized the opportunities provided by globalization.  Providing guidance to domestic clients when they venture beyond our national borders is now an important part of our practice. Our lawyers have developed an in-depth understanding of the legal cultures and regulatory environments in the countries in which we work, often having gained practical experience with major international law firms prior to returning to Brazil to join Felsberg. Most of our lawyers have studied abroad, and many are fluent in several languages. Some are admitted to practice in other jurisdictions as well as in Brazil.

The firm’s international practice is enhanced by its membership in two of the most respected global networks of law firms, Meritas (top ranked by Chambers) and Legalink. Membership in these networks gives our lawyers immediate access on a preferential basis to the best lawyers virtually anywhere in the world.  Felsberg Advogados is the only law firm in Brazil invited to join these two networks.

With the passage of time, we have found that our work abroad has tended to be concentrated in Asia, in Europe, and to a lesser extent, in the United States, extending to some 30 countries around the world. Guided by these transactions, we have set up “desks” in-house (Asian, German, French and U.S.) to provide specialized expertise and skills in support of this cross-border work. In addition, we are increasingly asked to focus with specificity on the international aspects of certain practice areas, particularly financial restructuring and tax. In recent years, our multidisciplinary teams have been particularly active in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Work of the international department is coordinated by Lorin Weisenfeld, an American-trained lawyer with extensive experience in political risk insurance, mediation, and dispute resolution.
