Imposing discounts on school fees is detrimental to competition, warns CADE

The Department of Economic Studies (DEE) of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) has been debating draft bills aimed at responding to the economic impacts of COVID-19, and recently stated its disagreement with the proposal to impose discounts on fees payable to educational institutions. The DEE alerted that educational institutions might opt to reduce salaries or dismiss employees, and they might even declare bankruptcy if they lack sufficient funds. A reduced number of educational institutions might lead to greater competition in the medium to long term.
