Government issues decree regulating carbon market in the country

Decree No. 11,075 was approved on Thursday 19 May, establishing the procedures for the preparation of Sectoral Plans for Mitigation of Climate Changes, instituting the National System for the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (SINARE) and establishing changes in the regulation of the use of Biogas and Biomethane.

In an article in English published on the Lexology portal, Fabricio Soler, Daniela Mota, Rafael Locatelli and Isabelle Ablas explain how the Decree constitutes both carbon credits and methane credits as financial assets, the deadline for possible presentation of proposals for the establishment of curves of greenhouse gas emissions reductions and how SINARE will have a positive impact on the management of all greenhouse gas emissions, removals, reductions and offsets.
