Sanitation regionalization faces resistance

The new Basic Sanitation Framework, which proposed the formation of regional blocks of basic sanitation, has encountered difficulties due to the resistance of municipalities, which in some cases can make projects unfeasible.

Rodrigo Bertoccelli, our partner in the Sanitation area, commented on the matter to Valor Econômico and highlighted that the “new sanitation law provides for different forms of regionalization, which may be compulsory (such as microregions, in which cities are required to participate) or hybrid (regional units, where membership is voluntary)”. For Rodrigo, the viability of the blocks depends on the convergence of interests among the municipalities.
