Profile

Following a period in practice on Wall Street, Lorin has spent the majority of his career involved with the promotion, financing and protection of international investments, focusing particularly on investments in developing countries. He was principal counsel of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the investment insurance arm of the World Bank, for more than 15 years, and served as well as director of MIGA’s mediation service. Before joining MIGA, he was assistant general counsel of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, a U.S. government agency that provided financing and insurance against political risks to investors in developing countries. He has served as a visiting law professor at the University of Costa Rica and a specialist in legal education at the Ford Foundation. Lorin currently lectures in the international economic law department of the Faculty of Law of Xiamen University in Xiamen, China. He has published numerous articles regarding the treatment of foreign investment.
