Infrastructure: only 20% of cargo transport in Brazil is through rail

Using railroads to transport cargo brings many benefits to companies and the country. However, only 20% of transport is through this means, with 60% undertaken via highways.

 

Rodrigo Bertoccelli, infrastructure specialist, commented in an interview with Brasil 61 that “the importance of increasing freight transport by rail lies in it being a much faster, cheaper, less polluting transport which, certainly, could boost the Brazilian infrastructure and reduce Brazil’s logistical bottlenecks. A broad and interconnected rail network would benefit the entire production process and the flow of Brazilian exports.”
