The privatization of Eletrobras should raise BRL 100 billion for the country and what could be the largest privatization in the country’s history has agitated the Brazilian Electric Energy market.
Partner Ligia Schlittler spoke with the newspaper Metropoles and stated that “there is controversy regarding certain provisions that may burden consumers and the inclusion of ‘legislative steps’ in the privatization of Eletrobras increases the risk of judicialization. It is a politicized agenda that transcends the regulatory and economic spheres. If it continues the way it is, it will interfere with the structure of sector planning. Certain matters included in the MP are related to sector planning and supply security, and therefore should be technically analyzed by the competent bodies.”
