Federal Law regulates monetary correction and the legal interest rate

ALERTS

On 28 June 2024, Federal Law No. 14,905 was approved, regulating monetary correction and the legal interest rate, making changes to articles 389 and 406 of the Civil Code.

Regarding article 389 of the Civil Code, the legislation established that, absent prior agreement or specific legal provision, the monetary correction index will correspond to the variation in the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), calculated and published by Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
