Why Brazil will not be able to eliminate landfills by 2024

Fabricio Soler, our Environment, Sustainability and Waste partner, commented to the DW portal on a study that indicates only the southern region of the country will be able to eliminate irregular landfills by the end of this decade.

According to Soler, “A fee to cover the costs of this service is essential for the country to overcome the municipalities that still use dumps.” He goes on to say, “Following the New Legal Framework means ensuring, on the one hand, the collection of the fee and, on the other hand, that resources are transported in an environmentally correct way, with selective collection and an increase in recycling and the implementation of sanitary landfills in a manner complying with current federal legislation”.
