Felsberg Advogados incorporates the data protection and tech law boutique CL Advogados

With the arrival of partner Clarissa Luz, the firm increases its capabilities in relation to the new General Data Protection Law

With the arrival of new partner Clarissa Luz, Felsberg Advogados has created a practice area specialized in Data Protection and boosted its technology team in order to provide advisory, compliance|, litigation and arbitration services to clients in relation to data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, tech law and other related issues. Clarissa’s entry is well-timed, in light of the Brazilian Data Protection Act (Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais – LGPD), which was approved in August 2018 and is set to come into force in August 2020.  With her arrival, the firm’s partners now number 24, of whom 50% are women.

“We have always been a firm about innovation,” says founding partner Thomas Felsberg. “We believe in preparing ourselves as well as our clients for the future and this is demonstrated yet again by our having Clarissa join our team.”

Clarissa obtained her law degree from PUC RIO, a diploma in Private International Law from the Hague Academy, and her master’s in law from University of California Berkeley, with a specialization in data protection, cybersecurity and technology law. She is an executive director of Berkeley Global Society and is a member of Blockchain@Berkeley. She holds memberships in IAPP – International Association of Privacy Professionals and was a Legal Fellow for the California Lawyers for the Arts. She is a co-founder and member of the Commission of Entrepreneurship and Startups of the Sao Paulo Pinheiros chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association (Comissão de Empreendedorismo e Startups da OAB/SP Pinheiros) and co-founder of the Commission of Data Protection of the Brazilian Association of Lawtechs and Legaltechs (Comissão de Proteção de Dados da Associação Brasileira de Lawtechs e Legaltechs – AB2L).

She has practiced for more than 12 years in the areas of dispute resolution, arbitration, intellectual property and technology law. In 2015, she started her own boutique law firm, CL Advogados, focusing on technology law and data protection, which was recognized by Análise Advocacia 2019 as one of the most admired in that sector in Brazil.

“We are extremely happy to have Clarissa with us as she will be an instrumental addition to our technology and data protection capabilities in relation to fintech and other relevant investments and M&A transactions,” says Evy Marques, Corporate/M&A partner and head of the Innovation, Startups and Venture Capital practice area.
