TAM asks ANAC to cancel 23 domestic and international routes07/08/2015
Due to the need to cut costs, Brazilian airline company TAM has asked Anac (the National Civil Aviation Agency) to cancel 23 domestic and international routes. The requests started to be filed officially in March this year. All the exclusions, however, are scheduled to take place between August and November.
According to the regulatory agency, however, there is no need for prior approval for the cancellation to take place. An airline company could, therefore, announce that it is no longer interested in operating the routes as well as when it would be ceasing to provide services on each one.
These announcements could be made at any time, suggesting that TAM may continue making announcements in order to reach its route downsizing targets.
As of the date scheduled for finalization of the operation, other companies can prepare themselves to operate the routes left open by TAM.
Should TAM wish to start operating the routes again, the company would have to check whether they are still available and would have to once again go through the bureaucratic process for the route to be made available.
