Felsberg e Associados Begins 2007 with Hat Trick
Felsberg e Associados has begun 2007 by winning three coveted prizes. The first was “Deal of the Year 2006” in the Debt Restructuring category of Latin Lawyer magazine for the firm’s leading role in Parmalat’s restructuring in Brazil. The second was yet another “Deal of the Year 2006” in the Latin American Infrastructure category of Euromoney – Project Finance magazine for the ATE II deal in which the firm represented the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The third was awarded by Mondaq, one of the largest global advisory content suppliers, for having been the “Contributor Most Read in Brazil”. As previously reported in our International Newsletter, Parmalat has been considered a leading case in recent Brazilian bankruptcy law. It is one of the first judicial restructurings under the new Brazilian bankruptcy law (enacted in 2005) to have successfully terminated, with the sale of the operating company – Parmalat Alimentos – to Latin America Equity Partners for R$20 million. In the course of the judicial restructuring proceedings, the Batávia and Etti business units were also sold, respectively, to Perdigão and Assolan, with Parmalat’s unsecured creditors being paid over a four-year period. We are very pleased also have won “Deal of the Year 2006” for the ATE II deal. We represented the IDB in its granting of US$119.5 million loan to ATE II Transmissora de Energia S.A. ATE II is a Brazilian subsidiary of the Spanish company Abengoa S.A. and, as previously reported in our International Newsletter, has been awarded a 30-year concession to develop, design, construct, operate and maintain a 1,200 MW, 937 km, 500kV electric energy transmission line that will cross Brazil’s Northern and Northeastern regions.
