João Paulo “JP” Servera focuses his practice on asset finance and corporate law, with relevant experience in aviation, aircraft financing and cross-border transactions. JP works closely with his clients advising on a variety of matters, including foreign investment and cross border securitization. Having joined Felsberg in May 2015, JP is the Head of Felsberg’s Aviation & Aircraft Finance department, leading a team exclusively dedicated to aircraft and engine finance and general aviation matters.
After having started his career in one of Brazil’s most respected law firms and dedicated his legal practice to litigation and restructuring matters, JP represented aircraft lessors in the largest Brazilian airline bankruptcy judicial procedure in the early 2000’s. Since then, his practice migrated from litigation and restructuring to aviation, a field to which he is currently dedicated. With over a decade of experience in aircraft finance transactions involving commercial aircraft, general air service companies, helicopters and corporate aircraft, JP has been assisting ECAs, Banks, Financiers, Lessors and other lenders/creditors in the securitization of assets in Brazil. The combination of his earlier career experience and the past decade’s practice brought to JP an extensive background and experience in aircraft-related commercial litigation, mostly involving aircraft repossession, insolvency procedures and bankruptcy.
JP also assists aviation clients in corporate-related matters, designing client’s companies and/or group corporate structures, drafting and negotiating joint ventures and shareholders agreement and advising on commercial contractual, tax, customs and regulatory matters
JP is an active member of the Aviation Working Group – AWG and the Rail Working Group – RWG in Brazil and was directly involved in the implementation of the Cape Town Convention & the Aviation Protocol, as well as drafting of local laws and regulations.
Several important guides and editoral have listed and ranked JP Servera as a leading professional and frequently invite him to speak in important aviation conferences and events, both in Brazil and abroad.
Personally involved in the art, diversity and third sector environment, JP works pro-bono for a few NGOs and individuals and recently assembled a team to launch Felsberg’s Art & Antique department, to support regulatory and economical matters relating to the domestic and international mobilization of artwork and antiques and museums/galleries portfolios.
