British publication elects the best law firms in relation to practice areas and global region based upon client recommendations. Felsberg Advogados receives mentions for its Insolvency, Environment, Tax and Labor Departments.
Felsberg Advogados is considered to be one of Brazil’s leading law firms in a number of different areas in the 2016 edition of the Chambers & Partners’ ‘Chambers Latin America’ guide, a publication that evaluates 185 jurisdictions throughout the world. The study took into account the opinions of more than 20,000 legal professionals and the work of 150 editors and researchers.
Felsberg Advogados’ Bankruptcy/Restructuring department is an international benchmark and one of the biggest and most important in the country, boasting an experienced practice group with an established market reputation. The department has been cited for offering advice on the full range of services in this sector area, with recognised strength in the management of judicial restructuring processes, insolvency procedures and large-scale disputes. In addition to this, it is well known for its international capacity and frequently acts for debtors and creditors in sophisticated cross-border mandates. According to one source consulted “The team is excellent and extremely well prepared. The lawyers demonstrated having vast legal knowledge, which goes beyond restructuring procedures – they are also well equipped to handle civil and labour matters.” Another source explained that “The lawyers stand out due to the quickness and efficiency of the work delivered.”
According to those interviewed, the founding partner Thomas Felsberg is considered to be “a distinguished name in this practice area, with a strong and very dedicated practice.” They go on to praise him for his “excellent work, in-depth knowledge and strong ability to lead cases,” whilst it points out that he frequently assists clients with large-scale reorganizations and is an active board member of the International Insolvency Institute. Paulo Fernando Campana Filho meanwhile, is praised by sources as “a brilliant academic and an excellent professional,” receiving commendations for his position as an up-and-coming lawyer with growing market activity in insolvency and debt restructuring. Amongst the firm’s significant clients mentioned are the Rede Group, Lupatech, Inepar, the bondholders of Aralco, Caixa Econômica Federal and the Homex Group.
In highlighting Felsberg Advogados’ Environment Department – led by Fabrício Soler – Chambers cites the firm’s leadership in applying the National Solid Waste Policy, principally in issues relating to the design and implementation of reverse logistics systems and shared responsibilities for the life-cycles of products. The publication also refers to the work involving the Sectoral Agreement on electro-electronic equipment performed together with the Federal Government which is currently being analysed by the Environment Ministry. Fabrício was described by those interviewed by the publication as “an authority in matters related to solid waste residues” in Brazil.
In the area of Tax Law, partner Thiago Rufalco Medaglia received commendations from clients who were impressed by “his knowledge of the law and ability to communicate complex matters in simple terms.”
In the field of Labour Law, Ana Amélia Mascarenhas Camargos received solid commendations from the sources consulted, notably for her experience handling collective bargaining issues, her work with the Regional Labour Courts and the Labour Public Prosecutor, and company restructuring, whilst she is also recognized for her notable work as a Professor of Labour Law.
This recognition from Chambers Latin America shows that Felsberg Advogados, one of Brazil’s most traditional and widely-respected full-service law firms, with 45 years in the market, continues to be a reference point in the most important areas of company law.
