Felsberg makes third lateral hire of 2015

Brazil’s Felsberg Advogados has hired a Villemor Amaral Advogados partner to lead its energy practice in Rio de Janeiro.
Luis Menezes, 38, joined the firm last Wednesday, bringing its partner count to 16. He will work closely with the firm’s infrastructure head, Daniel Engel, and can count on the support of three associates.
Menezes, who has served as a partner at Villemor Amaral for the past three years, says the lawyers at Felsberg share his outlook of the energy sector, which he believes will see more work as Petrobras continues its divesture plan and the Rousseff administration’s privatisation schemes get under way. “It was a great opportunity,” he adds, drawing attention to the firm’s reputation and the boost it may provide to his client base.
Menezes brings considerable experience to Felsberg, having begun his career 17 years ago as in-house counsel to the natural gas arm of Petrobras. He would later head to TozziniFreire Advogados where he made the partnership before joining Campos Mello Advogados as a lateral hire in 2010.
Menezes is Felsberg’s third partner hire this year. The firm poached infrastructure head Engel from Dias Carneiro, Arystóbulo, Flores, Sanches and Thomaz Bastos Advogados in May and picked up M&A partner João Carlos Anderson Corrêa de Mendonça from Veirano Advogados in April.
